What needed solving
The LuxAid Demonstration Fund is one of LuxDev’s private-sector instruments. It helps innovations that have already shown commercial viability scale up and contribute to the SDGs.
The fund needed a broad, transparent pipeline of eligible Rwandan companies in agri-food, and rigorous checks before awarding grants, without duplicating what other donors were already funding.
How we tackled it
- 1
Scouting
Sourced pipelines from GIZ, Enabel, Swisscontact, DANIDA, GGGI, SDC, Norrsken, Kigali Impact Hub, LHoFT Catapult, RDB, MINAGRI and RAB.
- 2
Screening
Scored companies against the fund’s eligibility criteria, favouring those recommended by more than one partner.
- 3
Ecosystem mapping
Mapped related initiatives to surface co-financiers and avoid duplication.
- 4
Due diligence
Full due diligence on ten selected companies using LuxDev templates.
Key outputs
- Shortlist of 10+ eligible companies
- Co-financing and initiatives map
- Due diligence reports on selected companies
The difference it makes
- A transparent, documented selection process so grant capital reaches solutions that are ready to scale.
- Co-financing partners identified early, so donor effort is not duplicated.
